Links for Community Project

Working the Web: Is your salary fair? Based on American figures the median wage is approx US$36,000 for Community builders and managers.

Prospero offers software hosting of most of the services we'd want (forums, chats, message boards, user profiles, differing levels of access) and they provide support as well. They don't actually list prices though :) They were connected to Delphi and provide support for About.com and Amazon and probably too exxy for our project - the main thing is that people provide this service.

Bravenet provides a lot of community services and you can subscribe paid to get rid of ads or become part of their sponsorship programs. Guestbooks, forums, mailing lists, chat rooms are all part of their services although you'd need somebody to manage with basic technical skills.

This article discusses some ideas on what to look for in forum software and it's pretty straightforward. It also links to this article by David R. Woolley where he compares a whole pile of packages. Actually his site seems to have links to some interesting stuff on web architecture and might be worth looking at in general.

Not sure what else I need to look at before our discussion tomorrow so I might actually go and get some sleep (it's 4 am and I've been chatting to obake and ivy and atratus online since 4 this afternoon - see uber!geek)
